We regret to announce the passing of Mr. Ernest “Ernie” Moore on July 15th 2023, at the age of 67 at Health Sciences North hospital in Sudbury. He is survived by his loving children: Kevin and Kateri-Anne from Thunder Bay, Ernestine from Marathon, and Chasity, Brandon and Serenity from Constance Lake. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren that he adored: Xander, Declan, Seraphin (Max), Jazmine and Keiva. He also leaves behind his dear siblings Arthur (Elizabeth-Anne) from Thunder Bay, Elizabeth (late Willie Dunn) from Ottawa, Jacqueline “Jackie” from Toronto, Stella (late Mike Etherington) from Ottawa and Andrew from Thunder Bay, in addition to many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was predeceased by his beloved son Ernest Jr. “Ernie Jr.” Moore; his grandson Kailym Moore; his brothers Edmond, Charles and Phillip Moore; and by his parents Angela and Bert Moore.
Born in Hearst on March 29th 1956, Ernie was a leader in the community. During his young adult years, he worked for Indian and Northern Affairs in Ottawa and Thunder Bay, and most recently he worked as a Business Development Officer for Constance Lake First Nation. He was a brilliant thinker and a gifted writer. He secured numerous grants for the community over the years and always acted as an advocate for people in his family and community. He was lovingly nicknamed the Corporal by friends and community members.
He suffered greatly in his life, losing loved ones far too early, but he always remained strong and maintained a positive outlook on life. He will be missed for his joyous and infectious chuckle, for his razor-sharp wit, and for his heartwarming smile. To know him, was to love him, and to feel seen and supported by him. He was an especially devoted supporter of his children, grandchildren and young people in his family, encouraging them in whatever endeavors they were working towards, and reassuring them that they had the skills and fortitude to succeed. You could always count on him to cheer you on, “right on!” he would say.
He was a humble, selfless and generous man and his presence will forever be missed by his loved ones. Rest well dear Ernie, our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Mr. Moore will be resting at Fournier Funeral Services in Hearst on Sunday, July 23rd from 3 P.M. to 6 P.M. The funeral will be held the following day on July 24th at 11 A.M. at St. Stephen's Anglican Church in Constance Lake, followed by the burial at the Constance Lake Burial Ground.
